Frequently Asked Questions

This FAQ page answers common questions about our therapy services, including what to expect from sessions, how walking therapy works, and how to get started.

Whether you're based in Glasgow’s West End or in the surrounding area, or perhaps looking for online support across the city, you'll find helpful details here to guide you.

How do I book a session?

Please reach out for an initial free phone consultation via our contact form. If it feels like the right step for you, we can then arrange regular sessions at a pace that suits your needs.

What does walking therapy involve?

Walking therapy is a great way to combine therapy with mindfulness and nature. It follows the same CBT principles but in a less formal setting. You and your therapist chat side-by-side whilst you walk, taking in the surroundings at a pace governed by you.

How much does it cost?

The initial consultation is provided free of charge. Following this, all sessions are priced at £50 and last for 50 minutes.

What areas do you cover?

The therapy room is located in the West End of Glasgow, close to the Botanic Gardens and a short walk from Hillhead subway station.

For walking therapy we cover various routes in the West End as well as the Southside of Glasgow including Giffnock, Newton Mearns, Shawlands and more. If this is the option you'd prefer, we suggest choosing a route not too close to your home for confidentially reasons.

I need help urgently - who should I contact?

If you need help urgently you should contact 111/999 or attend your local Accident & Emergency Department (A&E). During office hours please contact your local GP.

Please remember we are not an emergency service and cannot provide crisis intervention outside of scheduled sessions. If you need emergency/priority support, please contact one of the appropriate services listed below.

Do we have to meet in person?

We offer both in person and virtual sessions (via Zoom) and while we would always recommend in-person therapy, the choice is entirely up to you.

Do I have to commit to certain number of sessions?

There’s no fixed commitment, and we’ll always work at a pace that feels right for you. CBT is typically most effective over a course of around 6 to 20 sessions, depending on your goals and the difficulties you’d like support with. If you feel the sessions are not for you, or you want to just see how you go on a session-by-session basis then that is not a problem. We’ll always tailor the duration and structure of therapy to suit your individual needs, and we can regularly review how things are going as we work together.

What do I need for walking therapy?

This is Glasgow, so be prepared for the rain! Comfortable shoes, a waterproof, umbrella and water are advised.

How physically demanding is walking therapy?

Walking therapy will always be done at your pace. On the routes we use there are always places to sit, or to take a break. The routes used are mainly flat, and are traveled and paved paths and tow paths. It is always advised to watch your step however!

How do I know if you're the right therapist for me?

The honest answer is — you won’t know right away, and that’s completely okay. The initial consultation and first few sessions are a chance for us to get to know each other and begin building a therapeutic relationship. If at any point it doesn’t feel like the right fit for you, there’s absolutely no pressure to continue. Finding the right therapist is a personal process, and it’s important that you feel comfortable and supported.
